KENOSHA, WIS. (Mar, 23, 2024) - The North Central College men's volleyball team met Carthage College for a highly anticipated match-up this afternoon. Unfortunately, the Cardinals were knocked down by the Firebirds 3-0.

Cooper Lundal opened the match with a kill to give the Cardinals the first point of the set. From there the two teams exchanged back-and-forth points. Leading the match 8-5, Carthage got the jump on North Central and took a 7-1 run (15-6). The Cardinals' lone point in the Firebirds' run was earned by a kill from
Mitchell Hester. North Central continued to work hard, taking four consecutive points including a kill by
Jared Moser (23-15). Carthage took the first set 25-15 after a Cardinal attack error.

In the second set, the Firebirds took the first point from an attacking error from the Cardinals' defense. The teams kept the score close but Carthage was leading by a couple points (8-6). However, the Firebirds used this to their advantage and after a few points took a 6-2 run (18-11). North Central was not ready to back down. The Cardinals earned points from Carthage errors as well as kills by Lundal, Moser, and Hester (22-17). Their comeback fell short with the Firebirds taking the second set by a kill (25-19).

North Central started the third set off, quickly jumping to a 6-2 lead. After Carthage earned one point the Cardinals took three more points. The Firebirds gained momentum and tied the score at 11-11. The two offenses started to swap points and found themselves tied at 18-18. Carthage picked up their pace and outscored the Cardinals in a 5-3 rally to take the set (25-21).
Hester led both defenses with four blocks in the match, while
BK Bartlett led the match with 10 digs.
Karson Eggert tallied a total of 26 assists and Moser led the Cardinals with 11 kills.

North Central will take on North Park University on Wednesday, March 27. The first serve will be at 7 pm in the North Park Gymnasium in Chicago, Ill.
