MADISON, Wis. (Mar. 9, 2024) - Saturday's game at Edgewood College saw the North Central College women's lacrosse team come out firing early, but the homestanding Eagles soon pulled in front and were able to outdistance the Cardinals, 13-10, in a nip-and-tuck contest at Reddan Park.

The Cardinals (1-2) took the opening draw and scored the day's first goal just 34 seconds after the start of play as Annelise Oster found the back of the net. North Central doubled its advantage to 2-0 on Rachel Lawrence's goal with 11:27 on the clock, though Edgewood's Christina Eloe took the ensuing draw through the North Central coverage and tallied the hosts' first score just 13 seconds later.

The Eagles tied the score at 2-2 soon thereafter, though North Central's Lucy Culig scored the first of a career-high six goals on an assist by Julia Clarke to nudge the Cardinals back in front, 3-2, after just more than five minutes had elapsed. Lawrence scored a second goal to extend the visitors' lead to 4-2, but Edgewood (2-3) scored four times in the final 2:28 to carry a 6-4 advantage into the second quarter.

North Central kept the Eagles out of the net for the first 10 minutes of the period, getting a trio of goals from Culig to regain the lead at 7-6. The hosts rallied with goals by Lily Drinkwine and Emma Raupp to pull back in front, and Skylar Kipka tied the score at 8-8 with 1:23 on the clock before Raupp came through for Edgewood again with just seven seconds before halftime to send the home team into the break with a 9-8 edge. The Eagles scored twice in the first three minutes of the third period and led by at least two goals the rest of the way.

North Central's Abby MacKenzie established a single-game program record with 15 draw controls and shared the team lead in assists (2) with Clarke. The Cardinals' previous single-game record of 13 draw controls was set three times by Christina Truver in 2018 and 2019. Goalkeeper Cassidy Anderson saved nine shots on goal.

The Cardinals are idle until Thursday, when they travel to Livonia, Michigan to take on Madonna University (0-5). Play at the Madonna Athletic Complex is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. Eastern time. Click HERE for the full 2024 schedule and live coverage options.
