KENOSHA, Wis. (Apr. 20, 2024) -Â The North Central College women's lacrosse team found the going rough in the first half Saturday at Carthage College, as the Firebirds pulled away for an 18-6 victory over the Cardinals at Art Keller Field.
The teams were deadlocked at 1-1 midway through the first period before Carthage (10-4, 4-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) closed the quarter with three straight goals to take a 4-1 lead. The Firebirds followed with eight unanswered scores in the second quarter to take a commanding 12-1 advantage into halftime.
The Cardinals (7-5, 2-2 CCIW) played Carthage to a near-standstill in the second half, putting five goals in the net. Abby MacKenzie, Reese McMullen and Annelise Oster scored two goals each for North Central, and MacKenzie added three draw controls while Lucy Culig caused a pair of turnovers. Goalkeeper Cassidy Anderson saved 12 shots on goal.
