BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Apr. 26, 2024) - Advancing to their fourth straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tournament Championship, the North Central College women's tennis team rolled to a 5-0 win over Carthage College on Friday morning at Evergreen Racquet Club.

The Cardinals improve to 22-7 on the year, tying the most wins in program history, set by both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 squads. 

Abigail Penados and Natalie Bassett cruised to an 8-1 victory to claim the day's first win. After Mikayla Edquiban/Kayla McSweeney won 8-2 at No. 3, Kate Herlihy and Kensington Payne also picked up an 8-2 victory to complete the doubles sweep.

Needing just two wins to clinch the match victory, Bassett beat Marie Weis at No. 2 6-1, 6-1 before Payne won 6-3, 6-3 over Sasha Manojlovic at No. 3. Penados, Nina Patience, and Herlihy each won their first sets before the clinch.

North Central will take on the winner of No. 2 Wheaton College and No. 3 North Park University in the CCIW Tournament Championship. That match is set to begin at 12 p.m. at Evergreen Racquet Club.
