WAUKESHA, Wis. (Apr. 9, 2024) - The North Central College softball team returned from a three-week hiatus in competition at Carroll University Tuesday, sweeping a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) double header with a 2-1, 11-inning victory in the opener and a 5-1 triumph in a nightcap shortened to five innings due to darkness.

The Cardinals (15-3, 3-1 CCIW) staged a two-out rally in the fifth inning of the day's first game at Kilgour Field to tie the score at 1-1. Rachael Madsen and Talia Torosian drew consecutive walks before Hailey Morsovillo's single up the middle brought Madsen home.

North Central had runners on second and third with one out in the 11th when a Pioneer fielding error enabled Sarah Lynch to cross the plate for the winning run. Juliana Maude pitched 10 1/3 innings and improved to 7-0 this season with the win, scattering 11 hits while striking out five and walking none.

The visitors led throughout the second game after plating two runs in the first inning. Katie Del Re and Lynch led off with infield singles and advanced on Talia Torosian's sacrifice bunt before Morsovillo came through with another base hit up the middle to bring both runners home. Lynch drew a leadoff walk and stole second base in the third inning before coming home on a throwing error to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead.

Carroll (6-14, 0-2) scored its lone run in the fourth before the Cardinals closed the contest with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Lauren Bowmar singled and Emma Friedlund walked with two outs in the inning before Madsen's base hit scored Bowmar and Kayla Crabtree singled to bring home Friedlund.

Taylor Warren pitched the first 3 1/3 innings and was credited with the win (6-2), permitting four hits and three walks.

North Central makes its 2024 home debut Wednesday, hosting Lake Forest College (10-8) in a non-conference twin bill at Shanower Family Field. Play is scheduled to get under way at 3:00 p.m. Click HERE for the full 2024 schedule and live coverage options.
