BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (May 10, 2024)Â -Â The North Central College softball team saw its run in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament come to an end Friday afternoon, as the Cardinals were defeated by Millikin University, 8-0, at Illinois Wesleyan University's Inspiration Field.
North Central (29-12) fell behind after Big Blue catcher Leah Foreman hit a solo home run with two outs in the first inning, but remained in contention until Millikin (23-16) plated a pair of runs with two away in the fifth and closed out the contest with a five-run sixth inning. Four of the Big Blue's runs in the sixth came with two outs.
The Cardinals were prevented from recording a hit in the game, though Emma Friedlund received two of the four walks drawn by North Central batters. Juliana Maude pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three.
Selections and first-round host sites for the NCAA Division III Softball Championship will be announced Monday at 10:00 a.m. Central time at ncaa.com.Â
