WAUKESHA, Wis. (Sept. 28, 2024) - Opening up Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play on the road, the North Central College men's soccer team drew a 0-0 tie against the Carroll University Pioneers.

The Cardinals (3-2-4) started looking to the net early, with sophomore Will Mayer sending a strike to the bottom right side of the net. Pioneer's goalkeeper Jason Brunger kept the ball out of the net (2:06). Next, it was Carroll's offense to put pressure on the North Central defense. In the 14th minute, Matthew Meke fired the ball on goal, but his shot was swallowed up by goalkeeper Lucas Visser. The first half ended with the Cardinals and the Pioneers scoreless.

North Central kicked off the second half, and just minutes later, the Cardinals had a scoring opportunity with Tommaso Polidori finding the net but was denied by Brunger (47:44). The Cardinals' defense would shut down the Carroll offense, keeping them from shooting on goal for the rest of the game. In the 67th minute, Jared Urueta found an opening in the Pioneers defense and sent a shot on goal that Brunger handled. Luis Aviles delivered the game's final shot in the 86th minute, but Brunger made one final save. North Central and Carroll ended 0-0.

Starting in his second game of the season, Visser recorded two saves. The Cardinals outshot the Pioneers nine to seven with six of the nine shots on goal. North Central's defense kept Carroll to just two shots on goal.

The Cardinals are back in action Saturday, Oct. 5, when they host Kalamazoo College for a non-conference matchup at 1 p.m. inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium for senior night.
