CEDAR FALLS, Iowa. (Jan. 11, 2025)- After starting the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals with a loss against Alvernia University on day 1, the North Central College men's wrestling team ran the table to win three of their last four duals to place seventh in the meet after starting out as an eight seed. The Cardinals started today against No. 7 Vermont State University Castleton, where they fell in a highly competitive dual 18-14. The loss put them in the seventh place match against No. 6 Baldwin Wallace University, where North Central dominated for seventh place, 35-12.

For the second time this season, the match-up of second-ranked Christian Guzman and fourth-ranked Gavin Bradley (Castleton) happened in a 125-pound bout. The outcome was the same, with Guzman coming out on top in a 12-1 major decision. Guzman earned a second major decision (16-2) victory over Dorian Hoffman (Baldwin Wallace) to move to 22-0 on the season after a perfect NWCA National Dual.

Kaya Bogle (Castleton) and Ethan Spacht met up in the 133-pound weight class, and Spacht would fall by a 4-0 decision. Julian Valtierrez made his second appearance in the national dual meeting with No. 5-ranked Jaden Hinton from Baldwin Wallace. Despite little offense from Hinton, it was enough to fend off Valtierrez as Hinton defeated him by a 3-0 decision. Spacht finishes his showing 1-2 at the national duals with Valtierrez going 0-2.

13th-ranked Bradley Rosen, who wrestled all three matches yesterday for North Central, returned today to go for the Cardinals both times today in the 141-pound weight class. Rosen split his matches, falling in the first one against eighth-ranked James Rodriguez (Castleton) by a 7-2 decision but defeating Noah Creque (Baldwin Wallace) via pinfall (2:08), his first fall victory of the season. Rosen had an impressive showing at the NWCA National Duals, going 4-1, and he is now 11-2 on the season.

Tyler Starr had a pair of matches that went down to the wire as decisions in the 149-pound class. Starr fell to Eljiah Cyr (Castleton) in a 9-4 decision but defeated Emmanuel Scordos (Baldwin Wallace) via decision (4-2). Starr leaves the duals 1-2 and 15-6 overall.

In the 157-pound weight class, Harrison Konder went 0-2 on the day for North Central. His first bout was against No. 12-ranked Nate Camiscioli (Castleton), where Konder fell to a 6-0 decision. The next match for Konder was tougher as he faced top-ranked 157-pounder Michael Petrella (Baldwin Wallace). Konder was pinned in four minutes and 20 seconds. Konder went 2-3 over the two days at the national duals to move to 12-10 overall.

Alex Villar, who came away 1-2 yesterday, looked to change his fortunes on day two. He ultimately finished the day 1-1 and 2-3 overall at the NWCA National Duals. Villar faced off against Jashon Holmes (Castleton) in a 165-pound bout and would fall in a 5-2 decision. Villar finished strong, though, earning a 12-2 major decision over Donovan Palmer (Baldwin Wallace). No. 12-ranked Villar is now 15-5 this season.

Continuing to impress this season, Javen Estrada had an undefeated day in a pair of 174-pound bouts. The eighth-ranked 174-pounder took down Connor Gregory (Castleton) via 10-4 decision before scoring his seventh pinfall victory of the season by pinning Brandon Burkhart (Baldwin Wallace) in two minutes and 42 seconds. Estrada leaves Iowa with a 5-1 record at the national duals and a 15-3 overall record.

The other North Central wrestler to finish 5-0 overall at the national duals, 13th-ranked Payton Geigner, dominated the day in the 184-pound weight class with a pair of wins. Geigner opened day two strong with a major decision (10-1) over Blake Chapman (Castleton). He then defeated Matthew Hamad (Baldwin Wallace) with a fall in three minutes and 56 seconds. Geigner, along with Guzman, are currently the only two Cardinals with 20 wins on the season, as Geigner holds a 20-3 record.

Casey Aikman and Elijah Brockie each wrestled one match in the 197-pound weight class for North Central, starting with Aikman. He took on Haven Taterek (Castleton) and lost via a 7-3 decision. Brockie took over in the Baldwin Wallace bout as he faced Dominic Pagan. Brockie earned his fourth pin of the season in two minutes and 31 seconds. Aikman is 12-4 this season, and Brockie is 12-8 overall.

In the 285-pound class, ninth-ranked Robby Bates faced Abbas Abdulrahman (Castleton), where he won in a 2-0 decision. Aidan Trujillo wrestled in the Baldwin Wallace dual and fell to Andrew Vanscoy via decision (2-0). Bates finished the NWCA National Duals with a record of 1-2 and a 15-3 overall record, while Trujillo finished 0-2 to move to 8-8 overall.

North Central started the duals as an eight seed and took an early loss to No. 11 Alvernia University, 22-18, but was able to bounce back and take seventh place with wins over No. 24 Wabash College, 32-6; No. 8 The College of New Jersey, 32-13; and No. 6 Baldwin Wallace, 35-12.
