DECATUR, Ill. (Jan. 8, 2025) - Falling to 2-2 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play, the North Central College women's basketball team lost 80-69 to Millikin University on Wednesday night inside the Griswold Center.
Biz Daly scored the game's first points on a layup following an offensive rebound. Megan McClure broke a 6-6 tie with a mid range jumper before Jocelyn Trotter scored in the paint to put the Cardinals ahead by two, 10-8. Cate Uhren's layup capped off a 6-0 run for North Central. A Megan Duffy three-pointer with four seconds left gave the Cardinals a 19-15 edge after 10 minutes.
Josylin Simmons-Doxie assisted on a McClure layup to open the second quarter. The teams traded baskets as a deep ball from Simmons-Doxie kept the Cardinal lead at four, 28-24. The Big Blue closed out the first half on a 9-2 run to take a 33-30 advantage at the break.
Millikin kept the momentum going in the third quarter as a layup from Daly halted a 15-4 run as the Big Blue took a 48-35 lead. Uhren converted an old-fashioned three-point play with 2:41 left in the period. Grace Kieffer scored a fastbreak layup early in the fourth quarter before a six-point swing from North Central to climb back within 14, 64-50. Simmons-Doxie's layup cut the deficit to single digits, 72-64 but it wasn't enough as the Big Blue held on to earn an 80-69 win.
Daly led the Cardinals with 18 points while Simmons-Doxie added 11 to go along with her five assists. As a team, North Central shot 40.6% from the field and 25% from three-point range. Emily Brenneisen scored 26 points for Millikin which shot 55.1% on the game.
North Central visits No. 2 Illinois Wesleyan University (14-0, 5-0 CCIW) on Saturday as the Cardinals look to end their six-game losing streak to the Titans. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. inside the Shirk Center.
