Oct. 15, 2025 - The North Central College women's soccer team extended its win streak to five on Wednesday evening, Oct. 15, after taking down the Millikin University Big Blue, 4-1, inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. The Cardinals continue their climb in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action as they move to 4-0 in league play and 9-5 overall. Millikin falls to 3-8-3, and 0-3-1 in CCIW play.

Both teams produced close chances through the first 20 minutes of play but it was not until the 24th minute when the scoreboard finally cracked with a North Central goal. Jordan Lange picked up the ball in the box and slotted it out wide to Madison DeVriendt who hammered it into the right side for the Cardinal 1-0 advantage.

Just six minutes later, Yazmin Martinez intended a pass into Lange in front of the box but the long pass was deflected by the Big Blue keeper who was unable to reel in the stop. A Millikin defender attempted to clear off the mishandle but bounced it in for an own-goal, putting North Central ahead 2-0.

Off the Millikin reset, Kara Waishwell picked up the ball off a Big Blue failed clearance and turned to play it into Victoria Jaimes who powered it into the upper left 90 to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

Millikin packed in its defensive formation in the first half, holding North Central to 11 shots while only getting off three of their own. The Cardinals continued to break down the Big Blue defense in the second half, taking 17 more shots while holding Millikin to a single shot through the second 45 minutes.

Despite having just one shot in the second half, the Big Blue made the most of it for its sole goal of the game. Receiving a free kick after a North Central handball violation at the 30-yard line, Millikin sent a good pass into the box to score on a header and break the shutout.

The Cardinal defense tightened up after the Millikin goal, while the offense regained momentum and put multiple shots on goal. Big Blue keeper, Jessica Bearley, made crucial stops in the second half to keep it a two-score game, with the Millikin defense also putting on the pressure.

North Central found its fourth and final goal of the contest in the 84th minute with Lange splitting the Millikin back line and leading Waishwell into position to finish in the back of the net for the 4-1 victory.

Waishwell and Jaimes both scored their second goals of the season while DeVriendt put away her fourth. Waishwell also net her sixth assist on the year and Lange's two assists tonight bring her season total to seven.

The Cardinals controlled the match with 28 shots to Millikin's four while also leading in corner kick opportunities (6-1). Sophomore goalkeeper Lily Mattison was credited with her ninth win in goal.

North Central is set to hit the road for three straight contests starting with a trip to Kenosha, Wis. for a match up with Carthage College Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. at Art Kellar Field.
