Oct. 27, 2025 – North Central College women's wrestler Bella Mir competed for Team USA at the U23 World Championships last Thursday and Friday, Oct. 23-24, in Novi Sad, Serbia, finishing in eighth-place at 65kg while Team USA took third place overall.
 
Mir earned her place on Team USA back in April when she won the 65kg Championship at the US Women's Nationals meet in Spokane, Washington.
 
In the preliminary round, Mir defeated Cara Linda Du Plessis of South Africa by fall before taking on Elizaveta Petliakova of Russia in the quarterfinals. Petliakova won the match in a 7-1 decision and would go on to win the gold medal at 65kg. In the repechage round, Mir fell to Eniko Elekas of Hungary in an 8-0 decision. Elekas ultimately finished fifth while Mir took eighth.
 
The North Central women's wrestling team will officially kick off the 2025-26 season in Stevens Point, Wis., at the Pointer Open this Saturday, Nov. 1.
