RIVER FOREST, Ill. (Oct. 4, 2025)- Wrapping up regular season non-conference play with a match on the road against the Dominican Stars (4-5-2), the North Central College men's soccer team shut out the Stars with a dominant 4-0 win behind goals from Jay Umana and Joseph Sargent

Four minutes into the match, the Cardinals (5-1-4, 1-0-0 CCIW) got on the board as Aleks Duncevic found Sargent at the top of the 18-yard box, who then dumped it off to Umana just outside of the 6-yard box for the score to take the 1-0 advantage. Duncevic and Sargent were credited with the assist on Umana's first goal of the season.

Daniel Szalai faced his first of two shots on goal in the 17th minute from the foot of Tristen Banquil, which was saved. Minutes later Will Mayer and Lorenzo Monticelli fired off shots at Dominican goalkeeper Cody Leyba, who saved four shots on the day.

North Central scored 10 seconds into the second half after Dominican turned the ball over on the kickoff. A bad pass found the foot of Marco Costabile as he found Sargent breaking the back line. Sargent fired to the right of the net past the substituted goalkeeper Dominik Tyka.

Umana scored his second goal of the game at the 54th minute with the help of Carter McMahon and Costabile to set him up. Costabile played the ball up ahead to McMahon, who crossed it over to a trailing Umana. Umana scored with a light touch on the left side to make the score 3-0.

A corner kick set up the final score of the match as Duncevic took the corner and found Sargent in a pool of Cardinals and Stars. Sargent's 58th-minute goal put the score at 4-0 as he scored his eighth of the season. Duncevic recorded his third assist off the goal. Lucas Visser entered the match at goalkeeper in the 73rd minute to relieve Szalai and recorded a save in the 80th minute.

The Cardinals outshot the Stars 20-3 while having the shots on goal advantage 9-2. North Central took eight corner kicks to Dominican's two. Sargent scored his seventh and eighth goals of the season, while Umana recorded his first two.

North Central returns home on Wednesday, Oct. 8, for a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin match against the Augustana College Vikings (3-3-2, 1-0-0 CCIW). Kickoff inside of Benedetti-Wehrli is set for 7:30 p.m.
