Women’s Cross Country Finishes CCIW Championships in 5th

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Nov. 1, 2025) - The North Central College women's cross country team came away with a fifth-place finish at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1, totaling 107 points and two All-CCIW Second Team honorees.

Wheaton College won the CCIW Championships team title with 38 points followed by runner-up Elmhurst's 92 points. Illinois Wesleyan's Adriana Crabtree secured the individual title while the Titans finished third as a team with 92 points.

At the one-mile mark, four Cardinals nestled into a pack sitting 28th through 31st. By the halfway mark, Lily Anderson had climbed nine spots to sit 20th with Marissa Magana also making a move, jumping five spots into 23rd. Brianna Ruiz moved up four places into 27th with 3k to go.

Anderson made another push with just one 1000m to go, jumping 10 spots into 10th while Magana continued her climb into 18th. Ruiz and Sheridan each passed two runners to sit 25th and 28th, respectively, at the final checkpoint. 

Anderson crossed the finish line first for the Cardinals, turning in an 11th place finish in a season-best time of 23:10.7 to earn Second Team All-CCIW honors. Magana claimed the first All-CCIW honor of her career on the second team with a season-best effort as she finished 17th with a time of 23:19.1.

Brianna Ruiz finished 24th in a time of 23:32.7 with Molly Sheridan placing 27th in 23:43.6. Yarecci Salmeron rounded out the Cardinals' scoring runners in 33rd with a time of 23:58.2. 

The Cardinals capped off the day with both North Central's men's and women's teams winning the Al Carius & Paul Olsen Open races. The men scored a perfect 15 points in their victory and the women totaled 29 points for their win.

The CCIW also announced the nine winners of its RESPECT Award for the season. RESPECT Award recipients have distinguished themselves as an integral member of the team, their institution, and community by upholding the values of Responsibility, Enthusiasm, Service, Pride, Excellence, Collaboration, and Trust. The RESPECT Award recognizes the intangible traits a student-athlete possesses that exemplify great character and encourages inclusiveness and a positive culture. Emma Cecich was named North Central's CCIW RESPECT Award recipient.

North Central will host the Red/White Invitational next Thursday, Nov. 6 at St. James Farm. Race time is set for 4 p.m. in Warrenville, Ill.
