CHICAGO (Nov. 1, 2025) - The North Central College women's volleyball team closed out its non-conference slate with a pair of wins Saturday at the Ratner Athletics Center, sweeping the University of Chicago and defeating the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, 3-1.
Against UChicago,
Sarah Lezon's early kill gave the Cardinals a 5-4 lead in the opening set. After a 7-1 Maroons run, North Central stayed close as
Abranet Layne's block cut the deficit to 12-9.
Katie Godo's first kill of the season sparked a 7-1 rally to put the Cardinals ahead, 18-16. With the score tied at 24-24, Lezon and
Abby Buban delivered back-to-back kills to seal a 26-24 win.
A 10-1 run in the second set, capped by a kill from
Danni Moser, gave North Central control at 14-6.
Lauren Benson added a kill and an ace to extend the lead to 19-9. Lezon's kill and Benson's block secured a 25-18 victory.
Looking for their 10th sweep of the season, the Cardinals tied the third set at 10-10 behind Moser.
Sarah Harvey set up Benson for a kill to even the score at 18-18. UChicago led 23-21 before North Central rattled off four straight points, with Harvey's kill clinching the 25-23 win.
Moser led with seven kills, while Lezon and Buban added six apiece. Harvey dished out 23 assists. Layne and Benson each posted four blocks, and
Demi Carpio added 10 digs. The Cardinals recorded nine aces, led by Godo with three.
In the second match, Moser's three early kills gave North Central a 7-5 lead in the first set. A 6-0 rally, sparked by Lezon, pushed the Cardinals ahead 18-12. Kills from Layne, Moser and Lezon closed out a 25-19 win.
North Central jumped out to a 5-1 lead in set two behind a block from Moser and Layne. UW-Platteville responded with a six-point swing, but the Cardinals answered with a 7-0 run, including three straight aces from Godo.
Ava Hoff's ace and Buban's kill sealed a 25-22 win.
The Pioneers used a 7-0 run to take an 11-4 lead in the third set. North Central responded with a 7-1 rally, capped by Layne's kill, but UW-Platteville scored six of the final seven points to win 25-17.
Godo opened the fourth set with an ace, sparking a 5-2 run. Hoff's kill led a 5-0 stretch to make it 18-13. The Pioneers closed within two, 21-19, but Harvey's ace and Layne's kill clinched the 25-23 win.
Godo recorded her third match this season with four or more aces. Harvey and
Aleesa Zebold added three each. Moser led with 11 kills, Harvey totaled 43 assists, and Zebold registered 21 digs.
North Central returns to CCIW play Tuesday at Wheaton College. First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside King Arena. The Cardinals won 3-1 in last season's meeting in Naperville.
