Nov. 5, 2025 - The North Central College women's volleyball team closed out the regular season Wednesday night with a 3-1 loss to Elmhurst University in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play inside Gregory Arena on senior night.
Prior to first serve, the Cardinals honored 50 years of North Central women's volleyball, commemorating the program's inaugural season in 1975. The team also recognized seniors Sarah Lezon, Abranet Layne, Aleesa Zebold and Danni Moser for their contributions.
Elmhurst took the opening set 25-18 despite a late kill from Lauren Benson. North Central responded in the second, using a 6-1 run capped by two Layne kills to build a 14-6 lead. Benson's kill sealed a 25-14 win for the Cardinals.
The third set saw North Central rally from an early deficit with a 10-1 run, highlighted by two blocks from Sarah Harvey. After trading leads, Elmhurst closed with a 3-0 run to edge the Cardinals, 27-25.
North Central led 7-2 early in the fourth behind three kills from Abby Buban. Moser delivered four straight kills to give the Cardinals a 24-23 lead, but Elmhurst responded again, scoring the final three points to clinch the match, 26-24.
Buban paced North Central with 15 kills, followed by Moser with 11. Harvey tallied 42 assists and three blocks, while Godo added four aces. Zebold led the defense with 13 digs. The Cardinals out-hit Elmhurst .215 to .194.
North Central concludes the 2025 campaign with a 17-9 overall record, marking its fourth consecutive winning season—the program's longest streak since 2006–09. The Cardinals finished 3-5 in CCIW play and posted a 7-2 record at home.
