Baseball Downed by Baldwin Wallace in Weekend Invite

GRANVILLE, Ohio. (Mar. 14, 2025) – The North Central College baseball team fell behind early to No. 21 Baldwin Wallace University, resulting in a 19-2 loss on Friday afternoon at Big Red Field to begin the Denison University Invitational.

The Yellow Jackets took advantage of three Cardinal errors in the first inning to score two unearned runs to take a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Baldwin Wallace added three runs on three hits in the top of the second inning. In the third, the Yellow Jackets took control of the game by tacking on nine runs, all with two outs, to extend their lead to 14-0 after three innings.

Peyton Burgh hit a leadoff double to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning. Owen Ziaja and Justin Lang drew walks, but the Cardinals could not capitalize and remained scoreless. Baldwin Wallace added three runs on four hits in the fifth inning before adding another in the seventh.

In the eighth, Ziaja singled before Andre Medina was hit by a pitch. Matthew Falzone loaded the bases with a single. Ziaja scored on a wild pitch to plate the first Cardinal run of the game. Joe Hamilton drove in Medina on an RBI groundout.

The Yellow Jackets scored a run in the ninth to secure a 19-2 win. Austin Wienke recorded a team-high three hits on the afternoon as Ziaja tallied three walks, two hits and a run. Elijah Hammond suffered the loss, allowing 14 runs, 12 earned, in his three innings. Ryan Gerdes also struck out two in his four innings of work, allowing two runs.

North Central faces No. 6 Denison Saturday, Mar. 15 for a 2:30 p.m. (ET) first pitch at Big Red Field.
