Mar. 21, 2025 – In a late addition to the schedule, the North Central College softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader Friday afternoon to Dominican University at Shanower Family Field.
Game one saw the Stars strike first, scoring one run in the first frame before blowing the game open in the second with a six-run inning. The Cardinals responded in the bottom of the second as Hailey Morsovillo and Rachel Madsen each reached base before Carley Creeth hit a two-run single to bring North Central within five, 7-2.Â
The pitchers settled in, not allowing a run until the sixth inning as the visitors tacked on two runs on two hits. Morsovillo used a walk before scoring her second run of the game on a Kayla Crabtree RBI double. The Stars added a run in the seventh to secure a 10-3 win.
Juliana Maude suffered the loss, allowing seven runs, just three earned, over her 1.2 innings of work. Taylor Warren finished the game with three earned runs allowed as well over 5.1 innings. Madsen led the Cardinals with two hits in game one.
Dominican scored first in game two as well, pushing a run across in the opening inning, thanks to two North Central errors. Madsen and Gracie Vlach singled in the bottom of the first before moving up a base on a Talia Torosian fielder's choice. Emma Herder plated Madsen on a sacrifice fly to even the contest at 1-1.
The Stars used three hits to score a run in the third to break the 1-1 tie. In the fourth, Dominican put together a two-out rally to tack on two insurance runs, making the score 4-1. North Central's offense had its chances, but it could not capitalize as the Stars earned a 4-1 win in game two to complete the sweep.
Sam Schilf took the loss, pitching a complete game while allowing four runs, three of which were earned with two strikeouts. Herder drove in the lone Cardinal run as Madsen crossed the plate in the first.
The Cardinals take on Trinity Christian College tomorrow for a doubleheader at Shanower Family Field. First pitch for game one is set for 1:30 p.m.
