GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Mar. 22, 2025) – The North Central College men's lacrosse team fell short on Saturday afternoon to the Albion College Raiders in a narrow 8-6 loss at Zuidema Field.
North Central (5-2) jumped ahead early six minutes in when
Dalton Lutz fired off a shot past Caleb Howell in goal for Albion (4-5). The Raiders retaliated quickly over a minute later with back-to-back goals between Logan Mozingo and Brendan Mercier to take the lead 2-1. A long back-and-forth battle over the next four minutes culminated in
Charlie Snyder scoring with help from
Zachary McClure to even up the score. Cal Stearns pushed the Raiders back ahead in the final two minutes to force a 3-2 lead.
Albion got a quick score to start the second period from Luke Schuemann to push a two-goal lead two minutes in. The longest scoring drought began for the next ten minutes as both defenses locked in with both team's goalies only combining for three saves. The drought was broken in the final four minutes by the Raiders' Mathieu Champoux to push their largest lead of the game 5-2 into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, the Cardinal's defense locked in facing five shot attempts from the Raiders over the first seven minutes. North Central then went on a quick 2-0 run with
Ty Nagy and McClure firing off goals within 30 seconds of each other. This wouldn't prove enough as Albion combined for a 3-1 run over the final seven minutes of the period with Nagy's second goal not keeping pace to put the score at 8-5 into the final 15 minutes of regulation.
The final period saw the Cardinals lock in nine shots to the Raiders' identical nine over the course of 14 minutes.
Kyle Carollo scored the final goal for North Central in a last-ditch effort in the final six seconds with a pass from
Wyatt Hunt to seal the score at 8-6.
In a largely defensive game, the team combined to cause 13 turnovers with Hanson, Watanabe, Paris, and Rohrer each earning a pair. Nagy led the team in scoring with two goals while
Aidan Murphy secured the net through all 60 minutes with 15 saves.
The Cardinals return home on March 29th to face Calvin University on the field of Naperville Central High School. Access the full schedule
