April 23, 2025 – The North Central College women's lacrosse team battled to their second College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) win of the 2025 season, outlasting the Augustana College Vikings 14-10.
Entering the match, Augustana (5-9, 1-3 CCIW) came out strong, scoring first just two minutes in as Colleen Chiavola sent a shot past
Alyssa Rose in the net. North Central's (9-5, 2-2 CCIW)
Annelise Oster retaliated quickly, 60 seconds later, firing a goal past Lanie Cecala to tie the score. The remaining ten minutes saw both offenses battle back and forth, answering each other in a 2-2 run with
Abby MacKenzie and
Zoe Palm scoring to keep pace.
With the score at 3-3, the second period had the Vikings fire ahead first once again, this time 86 seconds in as Madison Langewisch forced a one-goal lead. It took another three minutes before
Anna Williamson found the answer to retie the game at 4-4.
Oran Wilkins subbed into the net for the Cardinals, but thirty seconds later, Kyla Painter forced another one-goal lead for Augustana. MacKenzie found the answer three minutes later with two goals under 60 seconds from each other to mark the Cardinals' first lead of the match at 6-5. Rose subbed back in within that time to fend off another two shots on goal in a heated back-to-back effort by Becca Lacina with just over three minutes to go. A costly penalty set North Central up to allow a man-up goal from Langewisch to tie the game once again. Oster found room 30 seconds later to push back ahead 7-6 before halftime.
In the last half of regulation, the Cardinals used the third period to go on a 5-1 scoring run featuring four scores from Oster and one from
Rachel Lawrence to push a dominant 12-7 lead with 15 minutes remaining. Oster and MacKenzie broke free in the first five minutes of the last period for the final two goals for North Central to mark an eclipsing 14-7 lead. Augustana attempted to rally but only found room for three more goals to end the effort at 14-10.
Offensively, Oster led the way, tying her season best of seven goals in a match while forcing a turnover. Defensively,
Samantha Alis led the way in caused turnovers with three and secured four groundballs. Rose secured the net for 52 minutes, earning five saves with
Oran Wilkins clocking in for seven minutes.
