Cardinals Advance to CCIW Title Match With 4-1 Win

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Apr. 25, 2025) – Advancing to their fifth straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tournament Championship match, the North Central College women's tennis team won four singles matches to claim a 4-1 victory over Carthage College on Friday at Evergreen Racquet Club.

Abigail Penados and Natalie Bassett took care of business at the top spot, beating Sasha Manojlovic and Niki Manojlovic 6-2. The Firebirds won 6-4 at No. 2 and 7-6 (11-9) at No. 3 to earn the doubles point.

Bassett picked up the first point of the day for North Central at No. 2, beating S. Manojlovic 6-1, 6-0. Putting the Cardinals in front, Kensington Payne beat Greta Peterson 6-2, 6-4. After Penados beat Xingchen Liu 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1, Meghan McSweeney clinched the victory with a 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (12-10). Liveta Ezerskis and Kate Herlihy were each in a third set before the clinch.

North Central will take on the winner of No. 2 North Park University and No. 3 Wheaton College at noon on Saturday. The match is set for Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington.
