April 26, 2025 – While celebrating North Central College men's lacrosse's senior class, they found themselves on the receiving end of a 15-7 loss by Elmhurst University in their final College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) regular-season match.
Elmhurst (12-2, 3-1 CCIW) surged ahead of North Central (7-5, 1-3 CCIW) in the first period with an unanswered 4-0 scoring run between Hunter Hernandez and Eli Spence. The Cardinals rallied back in the beginning of the second period with a three-goal run in the first seven minutes with
Wyatt Hunt scoring two and senior,
Ty Nagy firing one past Noah Mickelson in net for the Bluejays. Fischer Son rattled off a score past
Josiah Karnehm to mark the lead at 5-3 with over five minutes left in the first half. Over the next two minutes, North Central kept pace with another two goals between
Cole Westphal and Nagy but a lone goal from Pete Grebe in-between maintained a two-goal lead for Elmhurst into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, the Cardinals kept pace for the first seven minutes of action with Elmhurst's Hernandez scoring again but Westphal keeping up with a man-up goal. With North Central just behind at 7-6, Elmhurst pulled away in the final eight minutes on a 4-0 scoring run to push the lead to six into the final period.
In the final 15 minutes of regulation, the Bluejays continued to widen the gap scoring the first two goals to eclipse Westphal's lone goal. With a staggering 13-7 lead, Elmhurst scored two more insurance goals between Fischer and Spence to down the Cardinals at 15-7.
In total, the senior class combined to score two goals off the efforts of Nagy and six groundballs between Nagy,
Evan Watanabe,
Tucker Hanson, and
Christopher Dooley. In the net, Karnehm logged in for all 60 minutes to earn 17 saves.
