April 5, 2025 – The North Central College women's lacrosse team soared over the Anderson University Ravens in their annual celebration of the senior class with the upperclassmen combining for 16 goals in the 17-7 victory at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
North Central (7-3) got rolling early with senior
Abby MacKenzie firing her first goal of the game 74 seconds in. MacKenzie kept the pressure on, scoring again just over two minutes later for a quick 2-0 lead over Anderson (2-7). Fellow senior
Annelise Oster took her cue, firing the match's third goal, another three minutes later. Senior
Zoe Palm and MacKenzie would each score over the remaining eight minutes to eclipse the Ravens' first score from Julia Jarrells to go up 5-1 into the second period.
Anderson began to rally, firing off two goals in the first four minutes between Katte Escobar and Avery Jarosinski to inch back within two. Palm answered back, starting a 3-0 run five minutes later with her second goal of the game, with Oster and MacKenzie each tallying up another goal to bring the senior goal count to eight before halftime.
Coming out of halftime, each offense was shut down with senior
Lucy Culig finally breaking through for her first goal of the match with 7:45 left in the period. Culig kept her pace, finding room past Anderson goalkeeper Kimber Weiss to mark her second score and a 10-3 lead for the Cardinals with just over five minutes left in the period. Oster and Palm each marked another goal to bring an overbearing North Central lead to 12-3 with only the final period of regulation left.
The final period saw the Cardinals' senior class continue to dominate the Ravens, going on a 3-1 scoring run in the first six minutes with scores from MacKenzie, Palm, and a lone freshman goal from
Anna Williamson. Anderson quickly fired back with two goals from Weist and Jarosinski to mark a 15-6 score with the goals over a minute apart. With under five minutes left,
Ellie Gosselin added her name to the upperclassmen score sheet with her fourth goal of the season. As the clock continued to wind down, Palm marked her fifth goal of the game to keep Weist's final goal for the Ravens well out of reach, ending at 17-7.
The Cardinal senior class combined for 16 of the 17 goals, with Palm (five goals), MacKenzie (five goals), and Oster (three goals) each earning a hat trick. MacKenzie also led the day in groundballs with seven and seven draw control wins.
Alyssa Rose earned her fourth win of the year through all 60 minutes with two saves.
The Cardinals face their first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) opponent on the road at Elmhurst University on Saturday, April 12th.
