Men’s Tennis Sweeps PSU Harrisburg in NCAA Opener

GRANVILLE, Ohio (May 9, 2025) - Winning an NCAA Division III Tournament match for the third time in program history, the North Central College men's tennis team beat Penn State University-Harrisburg 4-0 on Friday at the Denison University Tennis Courts.

Rafael Lessa and Philipp Wottgen rolled to a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles in just 23 minutes. Putting the Cardinals ahead 1-0, Justin Penados and Ignacio Hernandez Ruiz beat Andrew Schreck and Michael Rivino 6-2 at No. 3. Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Matthew Sengphommachanh were up 5-4 at the top spot before the clinch.

Lessa earned the first singles victory of the day with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 over Clayton Herb. Following a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 from Ignacio Hernandez, Henry Ros clinched the 4-0 win with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6. Vilarroing Martinez, Sengphommachanh, and Wottgen all won their opening set before the clinch.

North Central advances to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where they will face No. 9 Swarthmore College at 2 p.m. (ET) on the Denison Tennis Courts.
