Cardinals Shut Out Redlands in West Coast Trip Finale

REDLANDS, Calif. (Aug. 31, 2025) – The North Central College women's soccer team closed out its California trip on a high note, taking down the University of Redlands in a 2-0 shutout in Redlands, Calif. Sunday afternoon, Aug. 31, The Cardinals move to a 1-1 record to start the year while Redlands falls to 0-2.
 
Plagued by a pair of offsides calls in the first five minutes of play, the Cardinals managed to settle in and get off three shots before Redlands found an opportunity of its own in the 14th minute, a shot that was sent wide and kept the match scoreless.
 
North Central controlled much of the opening 45 minutes and managed to crack the scoreboard in the 25th minute thanks to an unassisted go-ahead from Gabriella Mattio. It marks the first goal of the season for Mattio as she gave the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage.
 
Putting the pressure on Redlands, North Central took three more shots in a one-minute span but was not able to find the mark again in the opening half. The Cardinals attempted nine shots to Redlands five through the first 45 minutes.
 
North Central continued its press against Redlands in the second half, out-shooting the Bulldogs 16-4. Cardinal keeper Lily Mattison did not see any action from Redlands in the second half until the 81st minute. Jordan Lange put the Bulldogs goalie to work, taking a shot in the 81st minute that was saved by Nicole Immoos, but went right back at her with a goal in the 82nd minute. Off the assist from Mattio, Lange put away her first goal of the new season to give North Central a 2-0 edge that they would carry through the next eight minutes.
 
Through 90 minutes, North Central led in shot 25-9, shots on goal 10-2, and corner kick opportunities 8-0. Mattison picked up two saves in the win while Redlands' Immoos tallied eight.
 
North Central's next contest is slated for Wednesday, Sept. 3 against No. 22 Illinois Institute of Technology at 7 p.m. on Stuart Field in Chicago, Ill.
