HANOVER, Ind. (Sept. 21, 2025)- Wrapping up their weekend road trip in Indiana, the North Central College women's soccer team snapped their two-game losing skid, dominating the Hanover College Panthers, 3-1, on Sunday.

The Cardinals (4-4) dominated offensively and got going from the opening kickoff with a shot on goal from Gabriella Mattio, which would be saved by Panthers (2-4-2) goalkeeper Emma Patterson, the first of many for her on the afternoon. Madison DeVriendt tried her luck moments later, but Patterson was in position to stop the shot. Mattio fired two more shots, and Patterson recorded her third and fourth saves of the match.

In the 22nd minute, Jordan Lange took the ball into the 18-yard box and along the goal line before dumping it off to DeVriendt in front of the net, who fired to the lower right of the net for the first Cardinals' score. Lange, credited with the assist, set up DeVriendt's second goal of the season.

North Central kept up the attack in the first half with four more scoring opportunities, but all shots were stopped by Patterson and the Hanover defense. At the end of the first half, the Cardinals had recorded 10 total shots, with seven of them being saved by the Panthers.

The Cardinals expanded their lead to 2-0 almost instantly in the second half with a goal from Victoria Jaimes in the 49th minute. A North Central crosser landed in the penalty box and took a deflection off a Panthers defender. A collision between a Cardinal and a Panther gave Jaimes a free look at the goal as she fired to the top left for her first goal of the year.

Needing a response, Hanover set up an attack and fired off two shots on goal in the 57th minute, both of which were saved by Lily Mattison for her only two saves of the contest. North Central put the game out of reach in the following minute, making it 3-0 as Lange freed herself up off the right side and was fed by Kara Waishwell for her third goal of the season.

The Panthers converted a penalty kick in the 78th minute to avoid being shut out, but that was the only offense Hanover produced in the 3-1 Cardinals' victory.

Lange recorded a goal and an assist in the contest to bring her season points total up to eight. DeVriendt is tied with Lange as the team leader in goals with three, and Mattison recorded two saves with the only goal allowed being a penalty kick.

The Cardinals return to action Wednesday, Sept. 24, when they host No. 6 University of Chicago (5-0-1). Kickoff inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
