Aidan Ellison was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday after making three field goals, two from 47 yards or more, in the Cardinals' 44-14 victory over Washington University this past weekend in St. Louis, Mo. Two of Ellison's field goals ranked among the top 10 longest makes in program history.
Ellison's first field goal came late in the first quarter, a 49-yard kick that split the uprights to give the Cardinals a 10-point lead. That kick tied the program's fifth-longest made field goal and trails the record mark by just seven yards.
He also tied the ninth-longest field goal in school history on Saturday, connecting from 47 yards out in the third quarter, extending the Cardinals' lead to 23.
With his three field goals, Ellison tied for fourth in program history for the number of made field goals in a single game.
Having started the year a near-perfect four of five on field goal attempts, Ellison is tied for 20
th in Division III in field goal percentage (.800). His lone miss was a 56-yard attempt in the season opener. Ellison has been a factor in other facets of the kicking game for the Cardinals, nailing 15 of his 16 extra point tries and leading the country in touchbacks with 15.
The Cardinals welcome No. 16 Wheaton College for this year's homecoming game (and the Battle for the Little Brass Bell) on Saturday, Oct. 4. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
