Oct. 21, 2026 – With its 3-1 victory over Wheaton College (4-9-3, 3-2-2 CCIW) Wednesday evening, the North Central College women's soccer team clinched at least a share of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin regular season title for the second straight year.

The Cardinals stand as the CCIW's lone unbeaten team at 6-0-1 (13-0-1 overall) and have clinched at least a share of the regular-season title with one conference match remaining. However, with other contenders having two conference matches left, the Cardinals have yet to secure the outright championship.

North Central got its first scoring opportunity in the eighth minute when Claire Georgees picked up a misplaced pass by Wheaton and took it down the left side. With her defender trailing, Georgees buried a shot to the right side of the net for the Cardinals' first goal of the match.

North Central gave itself a two-goal cushion in the 33rd minute as Madison DeVriendt took a shot from the left side of the box that was punched out by Wheaton's keeper. Gabriella Mattio recovered the deflection and dished it off to Lily Mayer, who put it away for the 2-0 lead.

North Central controlled the attack in the opening 45 minutes, taking nine shots while Wheaton managed five in the final fifteen minutes of the half.

Georgees added to her evening's tally early in the 58th minute, getting a takeaway near midfield and taking it to the top of the box. Drawing the Thunder keeper out for a diving attempt, Georgees stayed with the ball to score her second goal of the match as the Cardinals went up 3-0.

Wheaton cracked the scoreboard late in the 58th minute as a long-range shot was just out of reach of Cardinal keeper Emma Megerle, narrowing North Central's lead back to two.

The Cardinals ultimately secured the 3-1 win to remain unbeaten. Georgees finished the night with two goals and Mayer scored one. As a team, the Cardinals took 19 shots, putting 10 on goal while Wheaton totaled 10 shots in tonight's contest with three on target. Wheaton's Lydia Martin notched seven saves in goal while Emma Megerle picked up two.

North Central will take the weekend to recuperate before heading to Rock Island, Ill. on Wednesday, Oct. 28 for its final CCIW regular season contest against Augustana College.
