ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Oct. 28, 2026) – The North Central College women's soccer team closed out the regular season in dominant fashion Wednesday night, defeating the Augustana College Vikings, 3-0, for its seventh consecutive victory. The Cardinals finished the regular season unbeaten at 14-0-1 overall and 7-0-1 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play. With the win, North Central secured the No. 1 seed in the CCIW Tournament.

North Central claimed the outright CCIW regular-season title for the second consecutive year and the third time in program history. The Cardinals also completed an unbeaten conference slate for the fourth time in program history, continuing a historic run of success in league play.

Madison DeVriendt created space in the 14th minute for a shot at the top of the box, but the effort soared high as the match remained scoreless. Five minutes later, DeVriendt received the ball at midfield and took off towards the goal with her defender trailing. Despite two Vikings defenders collapsing on DeVriendt, she managed to split the middle and place the ball just outside the reach of Augustana's keeper to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute. It marks DeVriendt's fourth goal of the season.

Following a corner kick entry for North Central, the Cardinals followed through on the deflected shot and utilized quick ball movement to find Sissi Loza in the middle of the box for a one-touch-and-score to go ahead 2-0. Freshmen Baylee Burbidge and River Pham were credited with the double assist.

North Central pressured the Augustana defense, taking 21 shots in the opening frame with 11 being on target, while the Cardinal backline allowed just two shots by the Vikings in the first half.

A well-placed pass from Gabriella Mattio in the 65th minute found Loza in the box once again. Loza chipped in her second goal of the match to put the Cardinals up 3-0 in what would ultimately be the final score.

The Cardinals added 12 more shots in the second half, bringing their evening total to 33 shots, 17 of which were on goal. Augustana managed five shots in the contest, putting two on target. North Central also led in corner kick opportunities 11-1. Augustana's keeper Sara Schinker recorded 14 saves while Emma Megerle tallied two while earning the shutout win.

With the win, the Cardinals secured the No. 1 seed and a quarterfinal bye in the CCIW Tournament. Quarterfinal action begins Saturday, Oct. 31, with two matches, while North Central awaits its semifinal opponent for a Wednesday, Nov. 4, matchup at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. The championship match will take place at the highest remaining seed on Saturday, Nov. 7.
