LOUISVILLE, Ky. & ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The No. 15 North Central College men's cross country team competed in another loaded weekend featuring three races across the Greater Louisville Classic and the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational. The Cardinals produced multiple personal-best performances on their way to a third-place team finish in the Gold Division and sixth in the Blue Division at the Louisville Classic while a younger squad also took sixth at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College.

Greater Louisville Classic

The Cardinals had an early start to the day, racing the Greater Louisville Classic Gold race at 8 a.m. CT. With 250 runners in the Gold division, North Central put itself in a good spot through the first checkpoint. At the 2.1k mark, BJ Sorg sat just outside the top-10 in 11th place with Daniel Kasperan not far behind in 14th. Jack Galminas came in 27th at the first marker.

At the 3.9k checkpoint, Sorg had climbed into ninth while the rest of the field began to shake up a bit.

Sorg came across the finish line in sixth-place while clocking his first race under the 24 minute barrier in a new personal best of 23:59.9. He was the highest finishing Division III runner in the field.

After falling back to 29th at the 3.9k mark, Kasperan found another gear in the final stretch to finish 15th in the field in a major personal best of 24:16.2. Ari Elmayan was the Cardinals third best finisher in 45th (24:57.6) with Jack Galminas coming in 47th (24:58.5), Richard Klein in 53rd (25:06.8) and Rylan Deichen in 65th (25:15.8), all of whom recorded personal best times.

As a team, North Central finished third in the Gold race with 159 points behind West Texas A&M University (26) and Lee University (Tenn.) (47).

The Cardinals also had a squad competing in the Blue 8k race where North Central finished sixth (195) out of 23 teams. Freshman Chris Quick led the way in the Blue race with a 25th-place finish in 25:54.6. Carson Lanners was the Cardinals' No. 2, finishing 34th in 26:06.3. Aaron Ramos and Brayden Groenenboom finished together in 45th (26:22.8) and 46th (26:23.2), respectively.

The young group of Cardinals turned in a sixth-place team finish out of 18 scoring teams with 164 points. Seventh-ranked University of Chicago won the meet with 37 points and University of Wisconsin-Parkside earned a runner-up finish with 59 points.
