Oct. 7, 2026 – The North Central College women's soccer team held off a second-half push from Millikin University Wednesday evening at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, earning a 2-1 victory over the Big Blue. The Cardinals improve to 9-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play, while Millikin falls to 6-4-3 overall and 0-1-3 in conference action.

Reese Anderson came out firing in the opening half, attempting two shots in the first three minutes of action. After her first attempt was blocked, Anderson's second was saved by the Millikin goalkeeper. In the seventh minute, Anderson found the back of the net as Madison DeVriendt brought the ball up the left flank and connected with Anderson, who finished to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.

Gabriella Mattio nearly added to the advantage in the 22nd minute, but her shot ricocheted off the crossbar. Claire Georgees followed with an attempt of her own, but her shot sailed high as the Cardinals continued their aggressive attack.

North Central doubled its lead in the 34th minute when Kara Waishwell sent a cross into the box, where DeVriendt finished into the bottom corner for a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The Cardinals dominated possession throughout the opening half, outshooting the Big Blue 22-2 and putting nine shots on goal.

Millikin got on the board just over a minute into the second half. Emma Megerle made the initial save on a hard-hit shot, but Izzy Jones collected the rebound and put it away to cut the Cardinal lead to 2-1.

North Central continued to create opportunities throughout the second half, including a pair of close looks from Victoria Jaimes and a shot from Sissi Loza that struck the woodwork in the 67th minute. The Cardinals' defense held strong down the stretch, while Megerle made two second-half saves to preserve the victory. She finished the afternoon with three saves.

North Central finished the match with a 35-9 advantage in shots and held a 14-4 edge in shots on goal. The Cardinals also earned seven corner kicks to Millikin's four.

North Central is back at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 10, for a Homecoming matchup against Carroll University. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
