Sorg, Kasperan Pace Cardinals to 1-2 Finish at St. James Farm

Sept. 4, 2026 – Despite extreme temperatures and a jostling meet schedule, the North Central College men's cross country team got out on the course for its season opener at St. James Farm Friday evening, where BJ Sorg came away with the win in the three-mile race.

North Central ran its varsity and freshman squads in Friday's race with both groups making a strong push from the start.

Sorg led the way from start to finish with Daniel Kasperan right alongside him. The two were just two hundredths of a second apart at the two-mile mark, but Sorg surged ahead in the last mile to secure the win in a time of 14:27.9. Kasperan clocked a 14:36.4 for a second-place finish. Richard Klein sat third through the race's entirety and came in at 15:00.3. 

Rylan Deichen moved up one spot, finishing behind an exhibition runner, but rounding out the Cardinals' top-five finishers in a time of 15:11.0. Jack Galminas was the Cardinals' fifth runner, finishing sixth overall in 15:12.3. 

The Cardinals will take a brief hiatus after their season debut and will return to competition on Sept. 19 at the John McNichols Invitational hosted by Indiana State University. Race time is slated for 9:15 a.m. ET at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Indiana.
