Each College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) institution selects one male and one female from each of the three sport seasons (e.g., fall, winter, spring) to be honored as the Jack Swartz Academic All-Conference winners. To be eligible, an individual must have an overall grade point average of 3.50 or above and must have lettered in their respective sport for that season.
The Jack Swartz Academic All-Conference award is named after the former Wheaton College tennis coach, athletics director and CCIWÂ commissioner.
Swartz enjoyed a distinguished career in intercollegiate athletics, both as a student-athlete and coach, as well as an administrator. He played football for Wheaton from 1948-1951, receiving All-Conference honors on both offense and defense. After graduating from Wheaton in 1952, Swartz went on to earn a Master’s degree from Michigan State in 1953, and a doctorate in education from Northern Colorado in 1973.
Swartz returned to Wheaton in 1958 as a member of the physical education faculty and as the tennis coach. He later went on to coach the football team as well. Swartz became Wheaton’s athletics director from 1975-1982 and served as the commissioner of the CCIW from 1987 until his death on July 11, 1997.
