North Central College sophomore Amanda Laesch competed at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships June 21-24, 2007 at Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
Laesch competed in the 5,000 meters, placing 10th with a personal outdoor best time of 17:54.79.
The race capped an impressive freshman campaign by Laesch, who earned All-Conference and All-Midwest regional honors for cross country. During the indoor track and field season, she provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in the 5,000 meters with a season-best time of 17:27.82. For the outdoor season, she won the 10,000 meters at the CCIW Championships after clocking a 38:23.48.
Laesch was the first North Central female athlete to compete at the USA Junior Track & Field Championships.
"Amanda is a great representative for North Central College," said head women's cross country coach Mahesh Narayanan. "She is still learning as a student-athlete, but her positive attitude, work ethic and sense of team were the factors for her success this year. Amanda has the ability to make a tremendous impact in our program over the next three years."
