Madelyn Scopp, competing in her first ever season as a triathlete, took home the top honor at the USA Triathlon Division III National Championships, taking first among a competitive field. Scopp came out of the 750-meter swim in 23rd and had to work to get back to the head of the pack. She did just that, with her and Annika Cotner moving together through the 20-km bike portion of the race to get within striking distance.  The 5-km run, which is where Scopp has excelled all season, was where Scopp made her move, slowly but surely moving up in the field until she took the lead going into the last stretch. She held the lead and took home the Division III crown, the third straight Cardinal to take the award. The Cardinals also won the team award, their third straight as well.
