Robbie Precin became the North Central College men's wrestling program's first-ever national champion in an NCAA-sponsored event in the 2022 championship in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Precin started off the day with a 5-4 decision win over Matt Berlin of UW-Stevens Point to punch his ticket into the Championship match. In the Championship match, Precin faced off against Andrew Perelka of John Carroll University. Precin would defeat Perelka by a 6-4 decision, taking home the 133-pound title and becoming the first NCAA National Champion in program history. Precin finished the season with a perfect 38-0 record and claimed a third straight All-America award.
"I don't even know what to say, it's unbelievable. This is something I worked for ever since middle school, I finally made it to the top. It's so hard to imagine right now. I just want to thank my family, my coaches, my teammates and everyone else who supported me in this journey, I can't thank them enough" said Precin. "The atmosphere was great, I've never felt like that before. I soaked in the energy from the arena and it was unbelievable. I felt like i was focused and it helped me get the job done."
Precin successfully defended his title at the 2023 national finals in Roanoke, Virginia, beginning with a matchup against unseeded Tyler Fleetwood of UW-Eau Claire. Precin would dominate Fleetwood, defeating him by a 6-2 decision to advance to his second-straight National Title match. In the Championship match, Precin would face sixth-seeded Dalton Rohrbaugh of York College (Pa.) and the two would battle throughout the three periods but Precin would hold off Rohrbaugh to claim his second-straight 133-pound National Title. Precin is the first four-time All-American and two-time National Champion in program history.
"Robbie has been the standard of this program the last four years. It is pretty special that he is the first two-time National Champion in program history and has led this program to its first team trophy is amazing," said North Central head coach Cook.
