Dan Starkey joined the North Central College coaching staff prior to the 2019 season as the running backs coach for the Cardinals' football program.

Starkey came to North Central after serving as a high school football coach for 29 seasons.  Starkey was an assistant coach at Westmont, Wheaton Warrenville South and Glenbard South High Schools. 

For 15 years, Starkey led the programs at Glenbard South, New Trier Township and Lockport Township High Schools.  Nine of his teams made the IHSA state playoffs with his 2008 and 2009 Glenbard South teams, led by North Central stars Connor Douglas ’14, and Nick Slezak ‘14, reaching the state quarterfinals. 

Starkey graduated from Illinois State University in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in education, earning four varsity letters playing linebacker and special teams for the Red Birds. He received a master's degree in educational administration from Aurora University in 2001 and recently completed a master's degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University Irvine.

Starkey and his wife Laurie live in Lockport and have three grown children, Bo, Cole and Roman.
