Veteran high school coach Don Sutherland joined the North Central College football coaching staff prior to the 2019-2020 academic year, assisting with the coaching of the Cardinals' linebackers.
Sutherland joins North Central after a distinguished teaching and coaching career at Cary-Grove High School, where he taught mathematics from 1978-2019. He was a member of the football and baseball coaching staffs throughout his tenure at Cary Grove, serving as head baseball coach from 1987-2018 and defensive coordinator for the football program from 1983-2017.
Sutherland played football and baseball at Augustana College from 1974-78, graduating with a bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1978. He earned a master's degree in mathematics from Illinois State University in 1986.
Sutherland and his wife Heidi, have two adult sons, Michael and Matthew '19.
