John Howell joined the North Central College coaching staff prior to the 2018 season as the Cardinals' defensive backs coach, a position he held through the 2021 season. Howell turned his focus to North Central's cornerbacks in 2023.
Howell served as the varsity defensive coordinator at Lemont High School from 2002 to 2016. He spent the 2017 season as the cornerbacks coach at Benedictine University.
Howell graduated from Millikin University with a bachelor's degree in physical education in 1984 and received a master's degree in educational administration from Governors State University in 1998.
