Taylor Throckmorton M ‘17 returned to North Central College in summer 2019 in the newly-created position of recruiting coordinator and assistant coach for the Cardinals' men's and women's track and field programs.
A former graduate assistant coach for the North Central women's program, Throckmorton came back to Naperville after a two-year stint as the head men’s and women’s cross country and track and field coach at Transylvania University (Kentucky).
Throckmorton is responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive recruiting plan which will serve both programs while also serving as an event coach and assisting with other responsibilities such as travel logistics and home meet management.
In two years as a head coach, Throckmorton’s recruiting efforts enabled Transylvania to double the programs’ combined roster size and led to the establishment of 26 new program records across all event groups. Transylvania more than doubled its men’s and women’s point totals at the 2019 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Indoor Championships over the previous year.
As a graduate assistant for the women’s track and field team at North Central from 2015 to 2017, Throckmorton coached athletes in the throwing events to a pair of national qualifying marks while playing a lead role in the program’s recruiting efforts. He assisted with management of the Cardinals’ home meets, including the 2016 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) and 2017 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships at Al B. Carius Track.
Throckmorton began his coaching career at Allegheny College from 2013 to 2015, coaching athletes in the throws, jumps and combined events. He competed in the sprint events as a student-athlete at Allegheny, running on a national championship-winning distance medley relay team in 2011 and being named North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Indoor Sprinter/Hurdler of the Year in 2012.
Throckmorton graduated from Allegheny in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in religious studies and received a master’s degree in leadership development, with an emphasis in higher education administration, from North Central in 2017. He owns a Level 1 Coaching Certification, as well as certifications in Strength and Conditioning, Sports Science for Speed and Power Events, and Meet Management from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
