2020-21 NCC Women’s Basketball Team

Kayla Morrissey

Kayla Morrissey joined the North Central College women’s basketball coaching staff in the fall of 2019 as a graduate assistant coach.

A two-sport athlete at Grinnell College (Iowa), Morrissey starred on both the basketball court and softball field for the Pioneers, earning D3hoops.com Third Team All-Central Region honors in 2017-18.  A two-time First Team All-Midwest Conference selection, Morrissey etched her name in the top-10 in the Grinnell record books in 12 different categories, including the all-time record for made free throws (417), while ranking third in scoring average (15.3 ppg) and three-point field goal percentage (.324).  Morrissey also earned First Team Academic All-District honors by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in 2017-18, while being elected a team captain her senior season.

On the softball field, Morrissey holds 15 school records and was named Midwest Conference Player of the Year in 2017.  Morrissey earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region honors all four years as a Pioneer, while also serving as team captain in each season.  Additionally, she was named to the Schutt Sports/NFCA Division III National Player of the Year Watchlist in 2016, and contributed to a total of 62 different program records while at Grinnell.

Following her four years at Grinnell, Morrissey continued her basketball career professionally for the NUIG Mystics Super League in Galway, Ireland where she also served as a Victory Scholar for the Sport Changes Life Foundation.

Morrissey also has extensive leadership experience from her four years at Grinnell, serving on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Student-Athletes Leading Social Change and was a Student-Athlete Mentor, while also serving on the Midwest Conference Female and Ethnic Minority Mentoring Program.

In addition to her CoSIDA Academic All-District honor in basketball, Morrissey was named a Scholar Athlete by the NFCA while earning Academic All-MWC in both varsity sports all four years.

A native of Burr Ridge, Illinois, Morrissey graduate from Grinnell in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in general science with a concentration in biology and statistics, while completing a master’s degree of science and exercise physiology and its application in therapy from the National University of Ireland Galway in July 2019. She will be pursuing a master's of business administration degree from North Central.
