Cardinals drop overtime heartbreaker 1-0

DECATUR, Ill. (Oct. 11, 2008) – Millikin University scored with just 58 seconds left in double overtime to defeat North Central College, 1-0, Saturday afternoon, in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin women's soccer game.

Millikin's Meghan Schroeder scored the game's lone goal in the 110th minute, finding the back of the net off an Allison Horne pass. The goal came just 58 seconds before the game would have been officially been called a tie.

The Cardinals out-shot the Big Blue 19-13 in the game, generating eight shots on goal, including three in the double overtime period. Elise Manzie (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Central) recorded four saves on the day, logging in all 110 minutes in goal for the Cardinals. Cristin Callis stopped eight shots in the game, picking up the shutout for the Big Blue.

The game was the Cardinals second consecutive overtime game. The team defeated Maranatha Baptist 1-0 on Tuesday in Watertown, Wis.

With the loss, North Central falls to 5-5-3 overall and 0-3 in CCIW play while Millikin improves to 10-5 overall and 1-3 in conference. The Cardinals return to the pitch on Tuesday, October 14, taking on Illinois Wesleyan to begin the team's two-game conference homestand.
