Spartans drop Cardinals 80-76

Nov. 29, 2008— With the score tied at 66, Aurora University went on a 7-0 run to take the lead, holding on for the 80-76 win over North Central College in a non-conference women's basketball game at Gregory Arena. Four Cardinals ended in double figures in a game that saw 13 lead changes and 10 ties.

Both teams traded punches in the first half with the Spartans taking a one-point 37-36 lead into the break. Neither team led by more four points in the first stanza.

In the second half with 7:36 remaining and the score tied, Meagan Re hit a trey to spark the Spartans who would go on a 7-0 run to regain the lead for good. North Central brought the game to within one point at 77-76 with 2:26 left, but where unable to capture the lead.

Jessica Davis (Jr., Chicago/Whitney Young) led the Cardinals with 21 points, shooting six-for-10 from the floor. Brianne Parra (Sr., Justice, Ill./Argo) and Meghan McGuire (So., Elgin, Ill./Central) each chipped in 12 points while Andrielle Baggett (So., Plainfield, Ill./Central) added 11. Amber Cibrario (Sr., Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) dished out a game-high six assists.

Kim Voiles led the Spartans with 23 points with Jessica Mason adding 13.

The loss drops North Central to 3-3 while Aurora improves to 2-3. The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, December 3, when they travel to UW-Stevens Point for their first of a two game road trip.
