Sep. 15, 2008 – The North Central College women's tennis team hit the road this past weekend, competing in Bloomington, Ill. on Saturday and Mount Vernon, Iowa on Sunday, compiling a 3-1 mark. The Cardinals defeated College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foes, Illinois Wesleyan and Augustana College on Saturday by identical, 6-3, scores. On Sunday, host Cornell College handed North Central their first loss of the season, 6-3, before rebounding for the, 5-4, win over Saint Ambrose University (Iowa).

Christine Heyd (Sr., Elk Grove Village, Ill./Conant) continued her dominance in the No. 5 singles position, winning all four of her singles matches over the weekend. Heyd is now 15-0 on the year in singles action. Alicia DeGrado (So., Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) and Cristina Madrigal (Jr., Hickory Hills, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) each finished the weekend 3-1 in singles playing in the No. 2 and No. 6 spots respectively.

In Saturday's matchup versus Illinois Wesleyan, the Cardinals swept all three doubles matches while picking up three singles wins for the, 6-3, conference win. Later that day against Augustana, North Central took two of three doubles matches and four of six singles matches for the, 6-3, win. With the wins, North Central improves their conference record to 3-0.

Sunday turned out to be a rough day for the Cardinals in doubles action, dropping all six matches. Against Cornell, the Cardinals won just three singles matches, dropping their first dual match of the season, 6-3, to the Rams. Against Saint Ambrose, the Cardinals rallied from a 3-0 hole to win, 5-4, despite getting swept in doubles action.

North Central, now 7-1 in dual match action, returns to the court on Tuesday, September 16, when CCIW rival Elmhurst College comes to Ranchview Park. Action is slated to begin at 3 p.m
