Women's Basketball falls 77-46 to Lady Reds

KENOSHA, Wis. (Jan. 24, 2009)—The North Central College women's basketball team was unable to stop hot-shooting Carthage College, falling 77-46 in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin game at Tarble Arena. Brianne Parra (Sr., Justice, Ill./Argo) came off the bench and scored a game-high 19 points as the reserves accounted for 35 of the team's 46 points.

The Lady Reds scored the game's first bucket and would never relinquish the lead, building a 26-10 lead with just 7:12 remaining in the first half. North Central entered halftime staring at a 15-point deficit, trailing 35-20.

The second half saw the Lady Reds shoot 53.1 percent from the floor while limiting the Cardinals to just 19.4 percent, as they would never trail by less than 15 points, cruising to the win.

Parra led the Cardinals, scoring a game-high 19 points, sinking all eight of her free throws while grabbing a team-high seven rebounds. Jessica Davis (Jr., Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) came off the bench and joined Parra in double figures, scoring 11 points with a team-high three assists. Jackie Errico (So., Blue Island, Ill./Marian Catholic) dished out a team-high three assists while chipping in three points and four offensive rebounds.

Katie Jarger and Katherine Burshiem led the Carthage scoring attack, each scoring 11 points as 11 different players scored for the Lady Reds. Carlie Janowiak dished out a game-high nine assists while Lisa Gartelos had a team-high seven rebounds.

Carthage shot an impressive 50 percent (30-for-60) from the field while holding North Central to just 20.4 percent (11-for-54) for the game.

The loss snaps a three-game win streak for the Cardinals as they fall to 8-7 overall and 3-2 in CCIW play while the Lady Reds improve to 11-5 overall and 3-2 in conference action. The Cardinals return to the hardwood on Tuesday, January 27, taking on Millikin University at 7:30 p.m. in Decatur, Ill.
