The North Central College women's soccer team closed out its three-game homestand in style, utilizing two second half goals to defeat North Park University, 3-1, in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

The Cardinals opened up the scoring in the 38th minute after Laura Petersen blasted a shot from just inside the box for her team-leading 13th goal of the season. North Park would counter in the 42nd minute, capitalizing on a misplayed ball as Faith Kakaembo netted the equalizer, sending the two squad's into the half deadlocked at one apiece.

North Central broke the deadlock in the 54th minute with a Brittany Jones corner kick bending in untouched for the go-ahead goal. An own goal in the 89th minute by North Park ended any hope of a Viking comeback, pushing the Cardinal lead to 3-1 with just under two minutes remaining.

Elise Manzie stopped nine shots on the night to preserve the victory while North Park's Ashley Jacobson made just four saves.

Win the victory, the Cardinals improve to 8-5 overall and 1-3 in CCIW play while the Vikings stumble to 5-8 and 1-5 in conference play. North Central embarks on a three-game road trip beginning on Saturday, October 17, heading up to Kenosha, Wis. to face Carthage College.
