Dec. 9, 2009 -
North Central College wrestler Nathan Fitzenreider has been selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin's Wrestler of the Week for Nov. 30-Dec. 6.

Fitzenreider, the first Cardinal to be so honored this season, earned the honor after posting a perfect 4-0 record in last week's matches. He posted an 8-2 decision at 133 pounds over Augustana College's Steve Poffenberger on Wednesday in North Central's first dual competition against a CCIW opponent on Wednesday, then went 3-0 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 2x4 Duals on Saturday.

Fitzenreider's first match at La Crosse was a 3-2 victory over third-ranked Mogi Bataar of St. John's University (Minn.) at 133, followed by a 9-3 win over the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Jordan Kust. He then stepped up to 141 pounds and defeated the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Zach Weisenberger by major decision, 13-1.

Fitzenreider is now 14-1 this season, including a 13-1 record at 133.

This is the first season that the CCIW has issued a weekly award for wrestling. Wheaton College's Justin Tomal and Elmhurst College's Charlie Curran were the first two award winners.

The Cardinals host the 46th annual North Central College Invitational, presented by Hyatt, on Saturday. First-round action is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
