MOLINE, Ill. (Mar. 30, 2009) – The North Central College baseball lost both ends of a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin double header at Augustana College on Monday, falling, 14-7 and 3-1, to the Vikings at Swanson Stadium.

The Cardinals dropped to 2-9 overall and 1-2 in CCIW play this season, while Augustana improved to 14-4 and 2-1.

North Central took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener, as Matt Burke led off by reaching on an error and was singled home by Joe Heller. The Vikings, however, scored nine times in the next three innings to take firm control of the contest.

The Cardinals scored twice in each of the final three innings to dig in to the hosts' advantage. Dustin Gilbreth scored on an error and Michael Corrigan delivered an RBI base hit in the seventh, Gilbreth also delivered a two-run single in the eighth, and Corrigan hit a two-run homer in the ninth.

Corrigan was 2 for 4 at the plate for North Central, while Heller and Andrew Wulbecker each went 2 for 5. Micah Yarbrough took the loss (0-1), allowing five earned runs on seven hits in two innings.

The Cardinals surrendered an unearned run in the first inning of the nightcap, and Augustana took advantage of a pair of extra-base hits to score twice in the fifth. North Central's lone run came in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Nick Robinson.

Corrigan went 3 for 4 to finish with five hits on the day. Jeremiah Torres pitched six innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits, and dropped to 0-1 with the loss.

The Cardinals travel to Alexian Field in Schaumburg, Ill., on Tuesday for two games against Wheaton College. Action is scheduled to begin at noon.
