Apr. 14, 2009 - North Central College baseball player Mike Kloss has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Co-Pitcher of the Week for Apr. 6-12. The CCIW announced its selections on Tuesday.

Kloss, who shares the honor with North Park University sophomore Mike Giovenco, is the first Cardinal to receive one of the CCIW's weekly baseball awards this season.

He earned the distinction on the strength of his performance in North Central's 4-2 victory at Elmhurst College on Friday. Pitching all nine innings, he allowed just two runs on three hits and struck out a career-high 17 batters, matching the strikeout total from his first four starts of the season combined.

For the season, Kloss is 3-1 with a 4.32 earned-run average and 34 strikeouts in 33 1/3 innings. The Cardinals are 4-1 in games that he has started.

North Central (5-14, 4-7 CCIW) returns to action Thursday, hosting conference rival Illinois Wesleyan University. Action at Zimmerman Stadium is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
