Apr. 15, 2009 - The North Central College women's lacrosse team lost the first leg of a home-and-home series with Trine University (Ind.) on Wednesday, as the Thunder left Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium with a 20-7 victory.
The Cardinals got off to a strong start, leading throughout the early going, but Trine made use of its advantage in depth and dominated the late stages of the contest.
North Central (0-8) jumped in front early, as
Amy Frazzini and
Liz Hasseld each found the net in the first five minutes of play. The Thunder scored twice to force a 2-2 tie, but Frazzini scored once again with 23:15 on the clock to put the hosts ahead once again.
Trine (3-4) responded with five straight goals to take the lead for the first time, though Frazzini,
Shannon Prince, and
Amber Cibrario each scored before the half ended to help the Cardinals keep pace. The Thunder scored the final three goals of the period, including two in the final minute, to take an 11-6 lead into halftime.
Prince scored the first goal of the second half, but Trine dominated from then on, scoring the final nine goals of the game.
Natalie Vivacqua finished with five ground balls and five draw controls for North Central, while Cibrario caused three turnovers. Goalkeeper
Elise Manzie recorded seven saves.
The Cardinals travel to Trine on Saturday. Play is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. local time.
