Apr. 16, 2009 - The North Central College baseball team was shut out for the first time this season on Thursday, as the Cardinals were limited to just one hit in a 9-0 loss to the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans at Zimmerman Stadium.
IWU starting pitcher Jason Pankau carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning, when
Matt Burke recorded an infield single. Despite its offensive struggles, North Central trailed by just a 1-0 count until the fifth inning, when the Titans strung together seven runs over the course of three innings to take command of the contest.
Tyler Herman, making his first collegiate start on the pitcher's mound, went 5 2/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits while striking out two and walking two.
The Cardinals (5-15, 4-8 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) continue their homestand Friday, hosting the University of Chicago in a non-conference game at 3 p.m.
